Straightway MBC of Mojave Leadership

Straightway MBC of Mojave is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.

Charles R. Johnson II

Senior Pastor

Charles R. Johnson II was born on October 16, 1968 in Los Angeles, California, to proud parents, Charles and Linda Johnson. His biological father passed away when he was very young, his mother remarried his stepfather, Pervis Jackson, who nurtured and raised him as his own, and he calls him dad to this day. He, along with his two brothers and one sister, were raised in Los Angeles and are a close-knit family.

Pastor Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age. His grandfather Pastor B. B. Jackson, organizer of Straightway Missionary Baptist Church, prophesied that Charles would be a preacher when he was only 12 years old. Although he didn’t accept his calling into ministry until he was 38 years of age, his grandfather’s prophetic word came to pass.

Charles married Shahidah Carter in July 2001 and together they have raised four children Cinnamon, Charles III, Elisha, and Denise. Understanding the importance of building on a “solid foundation” the family joined Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Ca, under Bishop Franklin Harris, Sr.  In 2003, Charles rededicated his life to God, and he and his entire family were baptized. While there he served faithfully as a Deacon, the Sunday School Superintendent, and Youth Advisor.  In October 2006, with the hand of God gently, yet persistently tugging at him, and being led by the Holy Spirit, he accepted his call to ministry. At a 3:30 PM evening service at Straightway Missionary Baptist Church in Mojave California he preached his first sermon.

Charles attended Los Angeles Bible Training School from 2007-2010. After which he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Bible Believers Christian College and Seminary in 2014. He also served as a mentor with Manformation, a non-profit organization that teaches inner city males between the ages 12-18 confidence, social skills, and personal development based on biblical principles. He also received a Certificate of Completion from the “Passing the Mantle” program through the Center for Religious and Civic Culture (CRCC) from the University of Southern California.

Charles diligently served and assisted with the ministry of Straightway MBC, traveling over 200 miles round trip from 2006 to 2014. Charles was ordained as a minister of The Gospel in January 2008. In May 2010, Rev. B. B. Jackson, Sr. went home to Glory. Charles was installed as Senior Pastor on October 16, 2010, his 42nd birthday.
