Choir Director and choir Ministry

The Choir Director (Choir) plays a critical role in the worship experience at Straightway MBC of Mojave, CA leading the choir in providing inspiring and meaningful music that enhances the congregation’s spiritual connection.

Purpose

The Choir Director is responsible for directing the choir during worship services, scheduling rehearsals, selecting appropriate music, and managing the choir’s annual budget. This role ensures the choir contributes to worship with excellence and reverence.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties

1. Preparation for Worship:

   • Rehearse the Senior Choir for active participation and leadership during scheduled Sunday worship services and other required services.
   • Select choral anthems suitable for the service theme or lessons of the day, in consultation with the Pastor when possible.

2. Music Selection and Rehearsals:

   • Ensure all music selections are provided to the musicians well in advance of rehearsals and performances.
   • Conduct weekly choir rehearsals and schedule additional rehearsals as needed for special occasions or seasonal events.

3. Service Leadership:

   • Direct the choir during weekly worship services unless alternative arrangements (e.g., other choirs, soloists) are made.
   • Facilitate choir member participation in other portions of the service upon request.

4. Special Performances:

   • Organize and lead the choir in special programs or seasonal performances, such as Annual Choir Day, Christmas, Easter, etc..
   • Arrange for guest soloists, accompanists, or instrumentalists as needed.

5. Overall Choir Management:

   • Maintain the choir’s appearance, sound, and delivery, ensuring professionalism and reverence.
   • Manage the choir’s annual budget and make necessary arrangements for resources.

Encouragement for Special Events

The Choir Director is encouraged to plan and present special music programs to promote choral worship and foster the congregation's spiritual growth. These events contribute to the overall vitality of the church’s music ministry.
